Silvano Arieti (Pisa, June 28, 1914 - New York, August 7, 1981) was an Italian psychiatrist.

After graduating in medicine he left Italy because of the racial laws, finding refuge in the United States where he completed his training in psychiatry, neurology, psychology and psychoanalysis. A student of Frieda Fromm-Reichmann, is part of the cultural currents of psychoanalysis and psychodynamic psychiatry. His research is open in multiple directions, either by giving equal status to the internal world as it appears from the psychoanalytic point of view, is paying attention to the point of view of neuroscience, ie the organic functioning brain.
His clinical and scientific contributions have focused mainly on the schizophrenic psychosis, which has proposed a framework of great psychological importance. In the last phase of his life he devoted himself to studying the creative process.
